Liturgy Study Registration Form

Join us as we dive into the siddur (prayerbook) and study prayers and liturgy from the Kabbalat Shabbat service!

In this 8-week online course, led by Robin Banerji and Marques Hollie, we will study with a chevruta (study partner), "going deep" or "going broad" into the language of our rituals with the goal of developing or deepening our personal understanding of the prayers and blessings. We ask that you commit to attending most (if not all!) of the sessions, with the understanding that things come up and you won't necessarily be able to make it to each one.

No prior Hebrew knowledge is required, although knowing your alef-bet will help (we can also point you to resources for mastering reading Hebrew script if you're looking for them)!

We will meet on Monday evenings from 7:15 - 9:00 pm ET, beginning on March 14th. Zoom link and materials will be emailed to registered participants before each session.

In this class, we’ll have the opportunity to “go deep” using the Hebrew text of the prayers to guide our understanding of the prayer. Which one of the following best characterizes your experience with Hebrew? Feel free to elaborate in the text boxes below. I’m working on, or have mastered, my alef-bet. I can read a Hebrew word with some confidence, but I don’t know what the words mean. I can confidently sound out a Hebrew word, but I don’t know the meaning of most words. I can piece together meanings using a dictionary. I can read Hebrew fluently, and I can recognize many Hebrew words I encounter. I have a fair idea of Hebrew grammar and how words and sentences are formed. I feel confident reading and understanding any Hebrew text I encounter, without the use of a dictionary.

Are you an internal or external processor? When you’re integrating new ideas, does it help you to talk things out or do you prefer thinking things through on your own? How well do you work with people who are similar or different from you in this way?

- All materials (ie. slide deck, handouts, etc) will be shared with registered participants in advance, and will also be linked in the chat. If you need to view the materials in a specific format, please let us know below.

- The workshops will be interactive, and a significant amount of time (45-60 minutes) will be spent in breakout rooms. If you have specific needs around breakouts (i.e. needing an interpreter/captioner in the breakout with you, not feeling comfortable or able to participate in a breakout), please let us know below.

We are gratefully accepting contributions from all who are able, especially NSP non-members, to help cover accessibility costs & guest facilitators, and to enable us to offer this course to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.

We suggest a donation between $36 and $108; breakeven cost is $80/person. If you're unable to make a donation at this time, that's perfectly okay! No one will be turned away for lack of funds.
